Description
The Joint Admission Test for Masters (IIT JAM) is an all-India, national-level entrance exam conducted annually by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) on a rotational basis. It is the premier gateway for science graduates looking to secure admission into M.Sc., Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D., M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree, and other postgraduate science programs at the 23 IITs, IISc Bangalore, and top NITs.
🎓 Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification: Candidates must hold or be appearing in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline.
Minimum Marks: General/OBC-NCL candidates need at least 55% marks or 5.5 CGPA, while SC/ST/PwD candidates require 50% marks or 5.0 CGPA.
Age Limit: There is no age restriction to appear for the exam.Attempts: There is no limit on the number of times a candidate can attempt the exam.
📋 Overview of IIT JAMPurpose:
Single window entry into premier Indian institutes for advanced science and research programs.
Conducting Body: Rotates annually among elite IITs (e.g., IIT Bombay or IIT Delhi).
Exam Frequency: Conducted once a year, typically in mid-February.
Mode of Exam: Computer-Based Test (CBT).
Seats Covered: Over 3,000 postgraduate seats in IITs and 2,300+ seats across NITs and CFTIs.
The Exam Pattern :
To rank high, a student must master three distinct testing formats over a 3-hour window (100 total marks / 60 questions):
Section A (MCQs): 30 Multiple Choice Questions. Watch out! Negative marking applies here.
Section B (MSQs): 10 Multiple Select Questions where one or more options can be correct. No negative marking, but requires 100% conceptual clarity.
Section C (NATs): 20 Numerical Answer Type questions. Students type numerical values directly into a virtual keypad. No negative marking.
